Located in the Centre of Victoria, Bendigo has excellent road and rail access and provides an ideal base for filming.  Bendigo is ringed by Eucalypt forests made up of the Whipstick and Kamarooka State Parks, the One Tree Hill and Eaglehawk Regional Parks, the Maiden Gully, Marong, Wellsford and Mandurang State Forests, Diamond Hill Historic Reserve and various flora and fauna reserves and bushland reserves.

Bendigo has many historic buildings that are icons of the city.  They include the Bendigo Town Hall, the Shamrock Hotel, the Anne Caudle Hospital, the School of Mines, the old Masonic Temple (now The Capital – Bendigo’s Performing Arts Centre) and the Alexandra Fountain.  In addition to these landmark Victorian era buildings Bendigo features a number of contemporary structures including the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank head office which was opened in December 2008.

History

The Bendigo region has a rich history dating back before European settlement when the Jaara people were the original inhabitants of the area.

Gold was discovered in 1851 - by Margaret Kennedy, an overseer's wife from the nearby Ravenswood sheep run. That event set in motion the beginnings of the gold rush and ultimately the settlement of the City of Greater Bendigo.

Shortly after this discovery over 3,000 Chinese people settled on the goldfields in 1854 providing an alternative culture that is a major part of Bendigo’s lifestyle to this day.
