History
The Leitchville district is named after the manager of the Gunbower station, Duncan Leitch. The township was gazetted in 1929 and is only a few kilometres from Kow Swamp which, in the 1960s, yielded a huge amount of fossiled evidence that there were at least two physically distinct Aboriginal races extant in Australia during the last Ice Age.
