Rushworth

Overview
Rushworth is the epitome of the traditional, colonial era country town. The main street is split, with a grove of 100-year-old palm trees planted the length of the park that constitutes the ‘median strip’. There are grand traditional churches, a court-house, a substantial museum building and many other classic heritage feature buildings.
History
In the 1850s this area was know as a ‘gold rush worth joining’. A liquor license for the still operating Criterion Hotel was issued in 1853, and the township was surveyed in 1854.
The town is still laid out in the same fashion and features a main street that had been substantially completed by 1890.
