Serpentine

Overview
Serpentine is a small town in a central Loddon Shire region where the rolling hills of the southern reaches of the council area give way to the broad, flat plains occupied by dryland farmers.
History
Selectors began to take up allotments in 1862 and the townsite was established as Serpentine Creek in 1863. A Post Office under that namehad been open since 1848, the name being changed to Se rpentine in 1917.
The Burke and Wills expedition is alleged to passed the townsite in 1860 while attempting to reach the Gulf of Carpentaria.
